Formula and Logic
For domestic shipments, the zone is calculated based on the first three digits of the origin and destination ZIP codes (a simplified mock for demonstration). For international shipments, the zone is assigned by destination country using a fixed mapping.
Dimensional weight is calculated as (Length × Width × Height) ÷ divisor, where the divisor is 166 for USPS domestic shipments and 139 for all other cases (USPS international, FedEx, UPS).
The billable weight is the greater of the actual weight and the dimensional weight.
Shipping cost is computed as: base rate for the zone + (billable weight - 1) × additional per-pound rate. Base rates and additional rates vary by carrier and shipping type (domestic/international).
